QUESTION: What is Mineral make up? Why is it so much better than regular make up? It seems everyone is wearing mineral make up instead of regular powders and concealers.

Mineral Make up is essentially pure crushed minerals. Two of the minerals are natural sunscreens so the makeup has a built in sun protection. Unlike traditional powders you “buff” the minerals on. The warmth of your skin causes the minerals to slightly liquefy and form a natural finish on your face. When the minerals are applied properly (which can take some practice) your skin has a glowing, natural look. Mineral Makeup generally refers to the Loose Mineral foundation, but there are many other mineral makeup products – finishing powder, face color, blush, eye shadow, eyeliner, etc. The minerals generally come in a loose powered form but it also comes in pressed or liquid.

QUESTION: I would like to ask some questions about your products and possible get some recommendations from you about my skin concerns. I’m 30 years old and when I got pregnant I got melasma on my face. With the birth of my child, melasma went away. Just this year I noticed some brown discoloration on my forehead, and yes, melasma is back. I also have blotchy, uneven skin tone, an occasional breakouts, large pores, combination skin type, ect. I heard about glycolic acid peel from my sister in law (she is using it at home for melasma that she has, and also other skin concerns as well). I did try it at her house once, and I must say I loved the way my skin felt the next day. I didn’t have any reaction to it (it was 30% glycolic skin peel). I was wondering if you can recommend some of your products that I can use to improve the overall condition of my skin. Thank you so much!

It seems you have a couple different issues you would like to address so let start with the Melasma. I first want to say this is an extremely difficult skin condition to treat…I am sure you know this already but you must be willing to commit to a regimen first and foremost. You mentioned you tried the 30% Glycolic peel with some success, and I am sure you did love the way your skin felt the next day, Glycolic Acid is formulated to refine, resurface and retexturize the skin as well as assist in cell turnover which is why your skin felt so nice after the peel. It was free and clear of dead cell build up and as a result the texture was even and smooth opposed to uneven and ruff. But to address the discoloration Lactic Acid is actually your best course of action. Lactic Acid is formulated to reduce the production of melanin which is what is causing the dark discolorations. This is your most aggressive treatment option. We also have a Skin Lightening Kit that has proven very successful at treating discolorations of the skin. The kit includes Skin Rx Clinics specially formulated 2 in 1 Microdermabrasion Peel as well as our Skin Lightener which includes 3 different forms of lightening agents…Hydroquinone, Kojic Acid and Glycolic Acid. The kit also includes a physical sun protection with SPF 30 so the discolorations do not come back once you have lightened them. As far as the large pores, uneven skin tone and occasional breakouts the 15% Glycolic Smoothing Gel will be perfect for you! It is formulated to assist with all of your concerns and will help improve the Melasma as well. A good cleanser and moisturizer are essential also. The Glyco-Lactic Gel Cleanser and O2 Rejuvenating Crème would be the most beneficial for your skin type.

QUESTION: Do you know of any products good for Keratosis Pilaris? I’ve had it for years and I can’t live with it anymore. I have serious discoloration and hard little bumps. Do you have any products that could assist me with that because I’ve tried everything under the sun! Thank for your response and I am so eager to treat this diseased skin of mine. Who do I speak with about this product? Thanks!

Hi, my name is Tara I name the Esthetician and Make-Up Artist here at Skin Rx Clinic. Any questions you may have you can contact me. I need a little more info about your Keratosis Pilaris…like where is it mostly (arms, face, etc) and is it mainly the little hard bumps or do you have red discoloration as well?? Once you get back to me with this information I can help better customize a regimen for you.

I am African American so the bumps aren’t red, they’re actually dark brown but they get red if irritated. They are mostly on my back and arms, but they show up in different spots as well. Thanks for your help. I order the lightning kit and I hope it helps. I really appreciate you assisting me because other products didn’t. I’m also using Meladerma bleaching cream to help even my skin tone. Do you know anything about the product?

I can only imagine you have tried everything!!! Without success! I won’t lie to you…this is an extremely hard skin problem to treat. That being said I am not telling you to give up and I do have suggestions for you. Your best option is The Microdermabrasion Peel; Its 2 in 1 formula might be just what you need. Glycolic Acid will help loosen up the skin and the Corundum Crystals buff away the skin the Glycolic Acid loosened. This allows the Glycolic acid to penetrate and help dissolve the bumps. This is what I would try first. You might also want to try Skin Rx Clinic’s Skin Lightener, it is designed to rebuild pigment and from how you described it, it sounds like you have damaged the melanin and it has turned a brownish color. If this is true the skin lightener will assist in restoring the color. I think we should first see if the Microdermabrasion Peel helps if so we should stick with that for a bit and see what results we can get from that product. If you are interested in both we do offer a Skin Lightening Kit that includes the Skin Lightener, Microdermabrasion Peel & Sun Protection. This is going to be a process…I just want you to be aware that this will not happen overnight but if you are committed I am happy to help!! Another benefit of the Microdermabrasion Peel is that it can be mixed with Skin Rx Clinic’s Glyco-Lactic Gel Cleanser and used as an everyday scrub…You mix one part Microdermabrasion Peel to 1 part Glyco-Lactic Gel Cleanser and apply like you would your body wash…this will prevent the area from becoming sensitive or irritated.
