QUESTION: I am new to your site and very hopeful you can help me. I am a 48 year old female who has suffered cystic acne since I was in my late teens. I’m no stranger to dermatologists, but nothing ever really cleared up my skin. I have been using Proactive’s 3-step system for about 7 years now and nothing has kept my acne more under control. Not even the prescriptions the doctors would have me use. A few years back I became concerned that the benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) might be the cause of some deep vertical lines I am getting in the hollows of my cheeks. I don’t know if it’s too harsh for aging skin. In addition to the deep lines, I have quite a bit of hyper pigmentation, whether it is from acne or sun damage. The tops of my cheeks are most likely sun damage (I have an olive complexion) and there are pretty deep holes where large cysts were at one time. I use filler for these before putting on makeup, they are so large. My facial skin has always bothered me, however, I’ve been able to make a pretty drastic difference using makeup. Lately though, this is not the case. The lines are deeper, hyper pigmentation darker, and the old scars seem to be drooping with the skin. The overall appearance of my face has taken on a kind of “wavy” appearance. I can only hope this is the result of so many different skin tones and that there’s a remedy for it. HELP! WHERE DO I BEGIN?

The good news is I can help!! It will however be a process and we will have to address your concerns individually! Your best chance at seeing a result would be a chemical peel. I would suggest Skin Rx Clinic’s Jessner Peel judging by the extent of the damage you described. Here is a link with a day by day documentary of a Jessner Peel: http://skinrxclinic.com/blog/jessner-at-home-skin-peel-documentary-journal/ and here is an informational link from the website explaining exactly what concerns the Jessner Acid addresses! This is where you would begin…review this info and let me know what questions you have and we will continue from there.
