Home Skin Peel Instructions

30% Buffered Glycolic Acid Peel

The use of Glycolic Acid helps to stimulate and speed cell turnover, producing more vibrant, smoother-looking skin. Our 30% Buffered Glycolic Acid Peel is specially formulated to penetrate to the deepest layers of the skin’s epidermis. This solution has been “buffered”, making it gentle enough for the first-time home user while still giving you the maximum results you want from a glycolic acid peel.

Two key natural proteins in your skin tissue keep your face looking young and smooth: collagen and elastin. The aging process causes these proteins to break down, resulting in more fragile, thin skin that creases from repeated movement. 30% Buffered Glycolic Acid Peel promotes the creation of new collagen, helping it “plump” and strengthen the skin, and stimulates production of elastin, making it more elastic and less prone to developing fine lines and wrinkles. With regular usage, SkinRx Clinic’s 30% Buffered Glycolic Acid Peel can give you radiant skin that’s thicker, tighter and firmer. You can turn back the clock on the visual signs of aging while actually improving the quality of your skin!

Our 30% Buffered Glycolic Acid Home Peel has a 2.8 pH, the perfect balance for maximum safety and effectiveness for home use. 30% Buffered Glycolic is recommended for first-time users with normal skin types.

This skin peel is a buffered Glycolic, which is ideal for home use due to its milder formulation. We also carry a full line of professional-strength, medical-grade unbuffered glycolic acid for more experienced users.

Directions for Using 30% Buffered Glycolic Acid Peel

Step #1:

  1. Avoid exfoliating your skin for a few days prior to use.
  2. Perform a “test patch” at least 24 hours before applying the 30% Buffered Glycolic Acid Skin Peel on your face for the first time. Apply a small amount of the solution behind your ear or on the inside of your arm. As with any product, there is a chance that you may be highly sensitive to glycolic acid. If extreme sensitivity occurs, such as severe burning and/or immediate redness, neutralize the area with the Post Peel Neutralizer, wash with a gentle cleanser, and DO NOT continue treatment.
  3. Wash your skin thoroughly with a mild cleanser (Limu Cleanser) before applying the solution
  4. Apply Skin Rx Clinic’s Pre-Peel Prep solution to remove excess oil and to further cleanse your skin. Let skin dry.

Step #2: Application

  1. Apply the 30% Buffered Glycolic Acid Skin Peel solution to a cotton or gauze pad and gently stroke over your face beginning with the forehead.  Avoid by half an inch any sensitive areas, especially around the eyes and lips (you may apply Vaseline or petroleum jelly to your lips to ensure protection).  Make sure you apply an even coat of the solution and do not re-apply on the same spot during the same treatment.
  2. The very first application should remain on your face for no more than 1 minute. Subsequent applications of 30% Buffered Glycolic Acid Skin Peel may be left on for up to 5 minutes, including the time it takes you to apply the solution. Perform treatments once every other week.  During your next treatment, you may leave the solution on 8-10 minutes. Never leave the solution on for more than 10 minutes. At any time, during any treatment, if excessive irritation or redness occurs, neutralize the area with the Post-Peel Neutralizer and wash with a mild cleanser.
  3. With a cotton pad, apply Post-Peel Neutralizer to neutralize the acid.
  4. Wash off solution and neutralizer with a gentle cleanser (Limu Cleanser) and lukewarm water.

Step #3: Post-Peel Skin Care

  1. A gentle exfoliant may be used on the third day following the treatment to help reduce flaking.
  2. Apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher daily following Glycolic Acid Skin Peels. You can also use a high-quality mineral makeup (such as the Mineral Secrets Ultra-Sensitive line) to protect your skin from the sun and speed healing

Treatment can be repeated as frequently as once every other week.

Jessner Peel

Our Jessner Peel is a popular formulation that is well suited for clients with extensive skin damage, cystic acne and/or very oily skin. Jessner peels consist of salicylic and lactic acids combined with resorcinol, a special ingredient found in advanced acne medications. Our Jessner Peel is designed to remove superficial layers of skin cells through extensive internal peeling, and with continued use can lead to smooth, rejuvenated skin. On many users, the Jessner formula will cause “frosting”–a white film of residue  made up of reactive skin cells–immediately upon application, providing a visual indicator of the skin’s dramatic response. Its inside-to-outside penetration makes it a true “power peel“. Jessner’s can be used to improve a number of skin conditions, including acne, sun damage, age spots, moderate wrinkles and fine lines. Jessner’s  is a drying peel, and while it is frequently used on a variety of skin types, it may not be the ideal choice for clients with very dry or sensitive skin.  We recommended that you allow your skin to become used to a lower-strength solution first (such as 15% Salicylic Acid, 50% Lactic Acid or 50% Glycolic Acid peels) prior to using our Jessner peel.

Directions for Using a Jessner Peel

Step #1: Preparation

  1. Prepare your skin by using a retinol cream (Pro-Med Face Cream) nightly for 2 to 3 weeks prior to using the Jessner peel.
  2. Wash your skin thoroughly with a deep cleanser before applying the solution.
  3. Test on a small area of the skin behind the ear at least 24 hours before applying to face. If irritation or redness occur, do not apply to face.
  4. Apply Pre-Peel Prep solution to remove excess oil and further cleanse your skin.
  5. Apply Vaseline or petroleum jelly to any areas you do not want the solution to peel, including lips, inside of nostrils, the half inch surrounding the eyes and lips and any other sensitive areas. Avoid the eye area.

Step #2: Application

  1. Apply the Jessner solution to a cotton pad. If you prefer, you may pour a small amount of the solution into a disposable cup and use our fan brush to dip into the liquid.
  2. Make sure the cotton/brush is not dripping with excess solution before beginning application.
  3. Holding the dry half of the pad with your fingers, gently apply to the skin, swiping each area to be treated 1 time only. (Do not repeatedly rub solution on any one area.)
  4. Leave the solution on 1-2 minutes. You may notice a “frost” (white film) on your skin as it reacts to the peel.
  5. Apply Post Peel Neutralizer with a cotton pad, liberally covering treated areas.
  6. Do not rinse your face with water immediately after performing the peel, as this may cause a burning sensation.

Allow your skin to heal for 3-4 weeks before repeating.

What To Expect After Your Jessner Peel

  • At first your skin may feel as though it is sunburned. It may be pinkish or red and feel tight.
  • Use a gentle cleanser (Limu Facial Cleaner) 1-2 times a day (do not scrub skin). A couple days after your peel, follow cleansing with a soothing moisturizing ointment (Herbal Moisture Creme).
  • Do not ever tug on any skin that is peeling from your face. You can cause excessive damage resulting in severe scarring if you tear a piece that is still partially attached.
  • Most people will find that their skin starts to flake 2 to 4 days after treatment and finishes flaking after 6 to 7 days.

After the peel, your skin may go through these general phases as it repairs its cells and renews itself:

  • 1st Day After Peel: Your skin will be pink or red, depending on how strongly it responded to the solution. It will feel slightly tight.
  • 2nd Day: Your skin may be red or brownish in coloring and feel a bit tighter.
  • 3rd Day: Your skin may have a dry, leathery appearance. You may have a bit of cracking or peeling around the active areas of the face (mouth, chin, nose).
  • 4th Day: Your skin may be darker brown where it has not peeled and pink where it has. It may have a very uneven texture.

Precautions for Using a Jessner Peel

  • It is recommended that you allow your skin to become used to a lower-strength solutions (such as 15% Salicylic Acid, 50% Lactic Acid or 50% Glycolic Acid peels) prior to using our Jessner peel.
  • Test on a small area of the skin behind the ear at least 24 hours before applying to face. If irritation or redness occur, do not apply to face.
  • Do not use a Jessner peel if you have used Accutane.  Consult your physician first.
  • Do not apply to irritated, sensitive skin or skin with open wounds or after extraction.
  • Do not apply to skin that has been waxed or shaved within 24 hours.
  • Do not apply after laser treatments, hair removal, photo rejuvenation or skin resurfacing.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and lips.
  • Do not rub into skin.
  • If contact occurs with eye(s), rinse thoroughly with water.
  • If severe skin irritation occurs, remove the product by rinsing with cool water, apply Post-Peel Neutralizer and consult a physician.
  • Avoid direct sunlight for at least one week following the Jessner peel and apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher daily after use.
  • Use moisturizers sparingly immediately after the peel as they can diminish the effectiveness of the peel. Moisturizer can and should be applied to cracked and peeling areas, however, to prevent scarring.
  • Do not pick at skin off while it’s in the peeling and flaking stage – this can cause scarring or infection.
  • The Jessner peel is not recommended for clients with active Herpes Simplex, warts, history of keloidal scarring, allergy to aspirin or salicylates, autoimmune diseases, prior peel sensitivities, sebhorreic dermatitis, collagen disease, atopy, eczema, recent radioactive or chemotherapeutic treatments, sunburn, windburn, or any type of recent facial surgical procedures.
  • Do not use the Jessner peel if you are pregnant.
  • Keep out of reach of children.  Do not use on children.
  • By using this product you agree that Skin Rx Clinic and SkinRxClinic.com assume no responsibility for misuse of this product or for any consequences or injuries as a result of using any of our products.

30% Lactic Acid Peel

Our 30% Lactic Acid home skin peel has a pH formulated for a safe and effective home skin peel. Lactic Acid is a superior exfoliant and is highly recommended for hyper-pigmentation and acne. Lactic Acid will cause the skin cells to turnover on the surface creating a healthier looking skin, but because Lactic Acid is part of the skin’s composition, it is more hydrating than other acid peels.  Lactic Acid is also less irritating to the skin and thus ideal for those with sensitive skin or those who cannot tolerate stronger acid peels like glycolic acid.  Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy (ADA) acid and is a milk product.  Those allergic to milk should not use this peel.
Results of a firmer and tighter complexion typically appear after three weeks of use. Responses to this Lactic Acid peel vary depending on the individual, but typically, a Lactic Acid peel does not cause noticeable sloughing like other acid peels.  Rest assured, this peel will break down the dead and dull skin on the surface and kill germs.  The result is stimulated collagen and elastin, giving the skin a firmer appearance as well as fighting both acne and dry skin.

Directions for Using 30% Lactic Acid Peel

  1. Avoid exfoliating your skin for the few days prior to use.
  2. Wash your skin thoroughly with a mild cleanser.
  3. Apply Pre Peel Prep solution to remove excess oil, further cleanse and prepare the skin for the peel.
  4. Apply the Lactic Acid solution to a cotton or gauze pad and gently stroke over your face beginning with the forehead.  Avoid the area around the eyes and lips by half an inch. One to two layers of peel is sufficient.
  5. For first use, leave the solution on for 30-60 seconds.  A stinging sensation is normal.  If there is excessive stinging or discomfort, rinse with water immediately and apply a Post Peel Neutralizer. After the first use, application time can be increased to 1-3 minutes as your skin becomes accustomed to the product. Application time may increase further as your skin becomes more acclimated to the peel, but the peel should never be left on for longer than 8 minutes.
  6. Rinse well with water.
  7. Pat the skin dry.
  8. Apply Post Peel Neutralizer to neutralize any remaining acid.
  9. Apply a fragrance-free, non-comedonic moisturizer.
  10. Apply the Willowherb Soothing Serum or similar calming agent to the skin.
  11. Repeat every 5-7 days for 5 weeks.
  12. Apply a sunscreen of SPF 20 or higher daily.  Note that the Lactic Acid peel will increase your sensitivity to sun.

Precautions When Using 30% Lactic Acid Skin Peels

  • Always test on a small area of the skin before applying to the face. If irritation or redness occur, do not apply to face. If you use cosmetics with AHAs and experience skin irritation or prolonged stinging, stop using the product and consult your physician.
  • Do not wax, use self-tanners, masks or Retin-A 24 hours prior to using the peel.
  • Do not rub into skin.
  • Avoid by half an inch the areas surrounding the eyes and lips. Do not apply to already irritated or recently waxed areas.
  • If contact occurs in eye, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not use on infants or children.
  • Apply a sunscreen of SPF 20 or higher daily when using Lactic Acid.

  • Do not use this peel if you are or have taken Accutane. Consult your physician first.

40% Lactic Acid Peels

Our 40% Lactic Acid home skin peel has a low pH of 2.5 for a safe and effective home skin peel. Lactic Acid is a superior exfoliant, and since it is a naturally occurring human metabolite, it is also a highly recommended treatment for hyper-pigmentation.

Lactic Acid, which occurs naturally in the skin, is a primary element of the skin’s natural moisturizing system. Lactic Acid is less irritating to the skin than most glycolic acid peels, which makes it a wonderful option for those with more sensitive skin types. This product is an excellent choice for clients in search of a peel with a good acidic value, little chance of allergic reaction and virtually no irritation.

After the first use, application time can be increased to 1-3 minutes as your skin becomes accustomed to the product.  Application time may increase further as your skin becomes more acclimated to the peel, but the peel should never be left on for longer than 8 minutes.
  3. Rinse well with water.
  4. Pat the skin dry.
  5. Apply Post Peel Neutralizer to neutralize any remaining acid.

Step #3: Post-Peel Skin Care

  1. Apply a fragrance-free, non-comedonic moisturizer.
  2. Apply the Willowherb Soothing Serum or similar calming agent to the skin.
  3. Repeat every 5-7 days for 5 weeks.
  4. Apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher daily.  Note that the Lactic Acid peel will increase your sensitivity to sun.

* Keep out of reach of children.

3% Salicylic Acid Peel

Salicylic acid is a mild home face peel that can be used as a starting point for treating a number of skin conditions. It is most beneficial for oily and acne prone skin types, and can also be used on normal skin due to its gentle pH level. 3% Salicylic Acid skin peels are recommended for minor skin issues such as acne inflammation, clogged pores, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis. Our 3% Salicylic Acid noticeably improves skin’s texture and clarity, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Our 3% Salicylic Acid peel also works well on normal skin due to its higher pH level.

The gentleness of our 3% Salicylic Acid makes it a wonderful starting point for acclimating skin to home face peels. Clients who are ready for a stronger solution or whose skin issues are more advanced can consider our 8% and 15% Salicylic Acid home peels.

30% Glycolic Acid Peel (Unbuffered)

Our 30% Glycolic Acid Skin Peel is available in a pharmaceutical-grade, unbuffered formula, allowing you to achieve professional results from the comfort of your own home. With its low pH of 1.7, this solution is strong enough to have a significant visual effect on your skin after only a few treatments.

The use of Glycolic Acid helps to stimulate and speed cell turnover, producing more vibrant, smoother-looking skin. Our 30% Glycolic Acid Peel (Unbuffered) is specially formulated to penetrate to the deepest layers of the skin’s epidermis. Available in a pharmaceutical-grade, unbuffered formula, this peel can help you to achieve professional results from the comfort of your own home. Its low pH of 1.7 means that this acid is strong enough to have a significant visual effect on your skin after only a few treatments.

Two key natural proteins in your skin tissue keep your face looking young and smooth: collagen and elastin. The aging process causes these proteins to break down, resulting in more fragile, thin skin that creases from repeated movement. 30% Glycolic Acid Peel (Unbuffered) promotes the creation of new collagen, helping it “plump” and strengthen the skin, and stimulates production of elastin, making it more elastic and less prone to developing fine lines and wrinkles. With regular usage, SkinRx Clinic’s 30% Glycolic Acid Peel (Unbuffered) can give you radiant skin that’s thicker, tighter and firmer. You can turn back the clock on the visual signs of aging while actually improving the quality of your skin!

Our 30% Glycolic Acid Home Peel (Unbuffered) has a 1.7 pH, making it one of the stronger formulas available for home use.

We also carry a full line of professional-strength, medical-grade buffered glycolic acid if you are seeking a milder formula.
