What are the symptoms of Rosacea?

If you are searching to find out what the symptoms of Rosacea are to find out if you may have this condition – you are in the right place and our team of skin care experts is here to help! Rosacea can sometimes be difficult to diagnose, so it is a good idea to visit a doctor or dermatologist if you find you have one or more of these symptoms.

The following symptoms are common in people with Rosacea:

Facial Redness – As Rosacea begins to develop, facial redness, especially on the cheeks, will be noticeable for lingering periods of time just like sunburn. The redness may also be on the forehead, nose, and chin. Things which may trigger the facial redness include sun exposure and alcohol consumption.

Bumps and Pimples – When the facial redness is noticed, you may also see or feel bumps or pimples within the red areas or on the outer edges. The bumps are round and red, and are unlike acne pimples known as whiteheads and blackheads.

Skin Thickening – Skin thickening will happen most often on the nose of people with Rosacea, and most commonly on men with the condition. This is caused by excess tissue forming.

Eye Irritation – About half of the people who suffer from Rosacea will experience some form of eye irritation. This may include redness or dryness, pink eye, burning, crusty mucus, tearing up, or a feeling like there is sand or dirt in your eye.

If you have been diagnosed with Rosacea and you are looking for the right skin care products to care for your skin type, Skin Rx suggests the following Rosacea skin care products:

Arnica Facial Wash – The perfect facial wash for people with Rosacea. It is mild and completely free from dyes, perfumes, oil, and alcohols – which means nothing to irritate your skin. Contains Arnica extract and aloe which is great for highly sensitive skin and works well to cleanse the skin of makeup and other dirt or residue.

Rosacea Kit # 2 – Contains six of the best products Skin Rx has to offer for people with Rosacea with Arnica Facial Wash, Willowherb Soothing Serum, Herbal Moisture Crème, Liquid Silk, Aqua Crème for Eyes, and Shammy.

Glycolic Acid and Retin A use

I purchased the Glycolic Kit. However, I also have retina A at home.   Can I use both products or do they contradict each other?

Glycolics actually work well in conjunction with other types of products such as Retin-A, Retinol, Vitamin C, and bleaching agents. With prescription-strength products, it is recommended that you alternate usage of the glycolic and the prescription product to avoid possible irritation.

Preparing for Post Laser Skin Care

Laser Skin Resurfacing Before & After

Laser Skin Resurfacing Before & After

After you have made the decision to receive laser skin resurfacing treatments and your appointments are booked, you should start to prepare for caring for your skin post-op. Proper post laser skin care is the best way to ensure you get optimum results from your treatments and also to help you avoid any complications or irritations that could potentially get in the way of healing.

Using the right post-op skin care products will promote faster healing times and even reduce the appearance of bruising and discolorations immediately following your procedure. Your skin will undergo certain changes during the healing process, and your best bet is to use non-irritating post laser skin care products which are free from perfumes, alcohols, and other harsh ingredients.

Skin Rx suggests the following post laser skin care products to minimize healing time following your cosmetic procedures:

RosaPlex Skin Serum – A calming skin serum which soothes, hydrates, and calms inflammation.

Vital K Ampoules – An emollient loaded with Vitamin K which helps to heal and calm the skin post-op.

Why do I have oily skin?

Oily skin is a common problem which leads to other skin challenges including blemishes, large pores, blackheads, and of course, the dreaded greasy shine. Oily skin can affect people of all ages, but in general, oily skin is worse in teenage years and tends to dry out as we age.

For those who suffer with oily skin and the embarrassing side effects, you may wonder why your skin is this way. Oily skin is caused by several different factors including:

  • Hormone levels (during pregnancy, menopause, teenage years, birth control pills)
  • Certain cosmetics
  • Genes (sorry, oily skin can be hereditary!)
  • Diet
  • Humidity in the air

Some things you can control, like your diet, but other factors, like your genes, you can not control. What you can do to control oily skin, however, is use the right products. Below are some of the recommended products by the estheticians at Skin Rx Clinic:

Glycolic Oily Kit: Contains a cleanser, an eye cream, and a lotion which work together to shrink pores, clear away blackheads, and cleanse away excess oil.

Acne 3-Step Control System: With a patented 3 Step system made of an Acne Cleansing Gel, an Acne Purifying Tonic, and an Acne and Oil Control Gel, you are just three steps away from clear, clean skin.

Come back soon for more tips on how to control oily skin!

Help for brown spots, hyperpigmentation

Question: Which products are recommended for my “brown spots”?

The “brown spots” you refer to is hyperpigmentation which can be caused by sun damage, hormones, and even incorrectly performed laser treatments. I have included a couple of Skin Rx Clinic’s recommended products to help address this issue, as well as some general information regarding hyperpigmentation.

First, our Skin Lightening Kit, which includes our very own Microdermabrasion Peel, a gentle, yet effective exfoliant. Skin Lightener Gel, a light weight, oil free, non-greasy formula enriched with 3% Kojic Acid, 2% Hydroquinone, and Glycolic acid to help fade unsightly spots. And Advanced Protection SPF 30, to help protect your precious new skin from the further sun damage.  This exclusive formula lightly moisturizes skin, and drenches it with skin enhancing Green Tea, Vitamins C and E, Vitamin A and Ginseng/Ginko Biloba/Licorice extracts for anti-aging.

Second, our Glycolic Peel Kit #1, which includes our ever popular 30% Glycolic Acid Peel, Prep and applicator fan brush with dish, everything you need to perform a professional strength peel at home!

You will save hundreds of dollars compared to what a Doctor’s office or Salon charges. Your skin will glow with healthy radiance, lines and sun damage will fade, acne, large pores, blackheads, and oily skin will clear up. Your skin will look healthy and smooth, well-rested. You might just get asked where you went on your vacation!

Both of these kits are best-sellers, and are easy to apply. It is truly a matter of personal preference when choosing which method is right for you. I prefer the Microdermabrasion Peel to get started with. If you find you require further lightening to this method, you may continue with the Glycolic Peel kit in the future. It is important to remember that this is a treatment process, and while you will feel results after your first treatment, seeing your results will take longer.

Sorry Giada! Time To Do Something About Those Crow’s Feet

crows feet, wrinkles around eyes

Giada de Laurentiis from The Food Network

If you happen to go to Google Images and type “eye wrinkles” into the search, Giada de Laurentiis from The Food Network is the first photo to appear. When that happens, it’s time to do something about those eye wrinkles. We know it’s not easy to deal with eye wrinkles – or getting older – especially if you do not plan on having cosmetic surgery.

Crow’s feet are those dreaded lines that extend outward from your eyes and become more pronounced when you smile. They start out as very fine lines, and become deeper and deeper over time.  These types of wrinkles, while they do get more noticeable as we age, are mostly caused by exposure to the sun and squinting! What this means is that even though they are not completely preventable, we can certainly prolong the inevitable with an extra step or two in our daily skin care routines.

Look for products that contain proven ingredients including retinol and anti-oxidants like Skin Rx’s Pro-Med Retinol Eye Cream which improves the appearance of deep lines and works to eliminate crow’s feet. This eye cream contains Pure Retinol, a new form of Vitamin E called Phosphatidyl Vitamin E, and Vitamin C – a powerful combination to combat crow’s feet!

10 Reasons to Switch to Mineral Makeup

Gentle on your skin – Mineral makeup is free of the harsh dyes, preservatives and fragrances found in many traditional cosmetics. Eliminating additives can help eliminate skin irritation, especially for those with sensitive skin.

All natural in look and feel – Mineral makeup is made from finely ground minerals found in the earth. Avoid the harsh chemicals and preservatives found in traditional makeup and let your skin’s natural luminosity shine through.

Loose Base in 2 gram Shaker Jar

Loose Base in 2 gram Shaker Jar

Effortless application – Mineral makeup is perfect for on-the-go application. With so many shades to perfectly match your skin, you won’t have to worry about makeup lines or unblended foundation.

Versatile – For those who use tinted moisturizer, liquid concealer and powder – consider making the switch to mineral makeup. Add loose powder to your favorite moisturizer and use it as liquid concealer or apply it with a brush for full coverage. There is no reason to carry an arsenal of cosmetics when all you need are a few, simple products.

Something for all ages – For teens with problem skin to those hoping to conceal wrinkles and an uneven skin tone, mineral makeup is the perfect solution. The light and easy application is ideal for first-time makeup users or women any age just looking for a change.

Longer lasting on your face – Mineral makeup is water-resistant so it will last longer without creasing or smearing, which mean less touch-ups for you.

Longer lasting on the shelf – Mineral makeup is inorganic making it difficult for bacteria to form. Although mineral makeup can essentially last forever, it is good practice to replace it once a year for the best application.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! – Excessive exposure to the sun can damage your skin. Get extra protection from mineral makeup that has a natural component that keeps your skin protected from harmful UVB and UVA rays.

Full coverage – Mineral makeup is light and blends so easily, it’s nearly impossible to go overboard and get the “cakey” look common with traditional cosmetic products. From morning, noon, to night – you’re ready for anything.

No mess – Skip the sponges and the spills! All you need to apply mineral makeup is a soft brush.

Home Remedies For Oily Skin?

Banana Mask - A home remedy for oily skin?

It seems that a natural approach to skin care appeals to lots of people, as we have found that there are many, many different recipes for home remedies for oily skin posted all over the internet. Some are crazier than others, but we thought it would be fun and interesting to post some of these “remedies” here for our readers:

Lemon – Apparently, you can take the juice of a lemon and just rub it all over your face with a cotton ball. Then just rinse with warm water and pat your face dry.

Banana – Some say you can mash up a banana until it is a paste with no lumps, rub it on your face like a mask, leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse.

Yogurt – Take some yogurt and massage it all over your face then wipe away with a towel. Remove any remaining yogurt with distilled water. (Pick your favorite flavor, the recipe didn’t call for a specific type of yogurt!)

The problem with home remedies is that they are rarely effective and while they are all natural, the benefits of using them does not really compare to products which have been formulated specifically for oily skin by experts in the skin care industry. If you really want a remedy for your oily skin, check out the following products recommended by Skin Rx:

Glycolic Oily Skin Kit – A combination of a cleanser, eye cream, and lotion, the Glycolic Oily Skin Kit works to remove excess oil, clear blackheads, revitalize the skin, and shrink pores.

Acne 3-Step Control System – Since acne is a big problem for many who deal with oily skin, Skin Rx offers this wonderful 3-Step system which fights acne, reduces excess oil, and clears up acne with anti-bacterial ingredients.

Limu Facial Cleanser – For those of you who are looking for a natural remedy for your oily skin, try a facial cleanser like the Limu Facial Cleanser by Skin Rx. This product contains all natural ingredients derived from seaweed and aloe which cleans the skin and stabilizes moisture content without the use of oils or harsh ingredients.

Post Laser Skin Care – Tips To Make The Most Of Your Healing Period

If you are one of the many women and men who have decided on laser resurfacing for younger looking skin, you know from conversations with your doctor that post laser skin care is very important to achieve the best results. You will have to avoid the sun, but most importantly, there are changes to your skin care routine as it pertains to products that you should and should not use after laser treatments.

Your skin is in a very sensitive state after laser treatments, so it is wise to use products meant for sensitive skin which do not contain ingredients like perfumes, dyes, alcohols, or other irritants. If the right products are not used, you could end up with results you are not happy with! Immediately after a laser treatment, your skin will likely be pinkish or reddish and even slightly inflamed. In the days following the treatments, your skin will become a more intense shade of red which is often accompanied by fluid build-up and some crusting of the skin. Besides lots of rest and staying out of the sun, Skin Rx suggests the following products:

  • Skin Recovery Crème – This moisturizer is meant to cool, soothe, and repair your facial skin after laser treatments. It contains Aloe, Linden Extract, Echinacea, and Vitamin K. It actually works to repair broken capillaries and bruising.
  • Willowherb Soothing Serum – This wonderful serum contains a powerful moisturizer, Hyaluronic Acid, as well as Ginko Biloba, Aloe, and Vitamin K. It aids in calming and healing the skin and works well in combination with the Skin Recovery Crème.
  • Vital C – If you want to maintain the results you achieved with your laser treatments, try Vital C. This serum is highly effective against aging with antioxidants to protect from sun damage and other environmental factors.

Have you recently had laser treatments for your skin? Post a comment to tell us your post laser recovery stories!
