Look Your Best, Naturally

Look your best, naturally

low-rez-arnica-facial-wash-8oz---3Let’s face it; most of us use a few cosmetics each day to put our best face forward. Whether you apply in the morning, or touch-up throughout the day, most of us carry around one thing or another to “freshen up.” But wouldn’t it be nice to leave fresh-faced in the morning with nothing but your favorite lipstick?

Below are some simple steps to looking your best, naturally.

  1. Cleanse. Clean skin is the foundation for clear skin. The most important thing you can do for your skin is to clean it every day. By washing your face twice daily – in the morning and before bed – you will be getting rid of the makeup and other residue that can cause acne and skin sensitivity. One to try is our Arnica Face Wash.
  2. Exfoliate. Avoid the dry, dull skin that appears during the fall and winter months by regularly exfoliating. Proper exfoliating can give you that summer glow all year long. At-home microdermabrasion can save you hundreds but ensure you’re getting the most effective treatment possible by comparing crystal counts. Consider trying the Microdermabrasion Kit #5 that includes a jar of our fragrance-free exfoliating crystals (four times more than in-clinic treatments) and our soothing serum to cool your skin.
  3. Polish. Glycolic acid is used to improve the skin’s appearance and texture. It helps to reduce wrinkles, acne scarring, hyper-pigmentation and improve many other skin conditions. Our Glycolic Facial Polish will buff and polish your skin to smoothness in an instant. Use it three times weekly to remove the dry skin and oil that can clog pores.
  4. Moisturize. It’s important for everyone to moisturize. Even if you suffer from oily skin, you still need to hydrate! Skipping moisturizer will only cause your skin to overcompensate and create more shine. Try our richly hydrating Herbal Moisture Crème.
  5. Protect. Protecting your skin from the harmful rays of sun will not only fight off premature aging, but decrease your chances of developing skin cancer. The higher the sun protection factor number (SPF), the more UV protection you can expect. Use our Natural Sun Protection SPF 30 for UVB and UVA cancer-preventing, high-strength protection against the sun. This non-irritating, oil-free, facial (or body) sunblock also works great for those with sensitive skin.

10 Reasons to Switch to Mineral Makeup

Gentle on your skin – Mineral makeup is free of the harsh dyes, preservatives and fragrances found in many traditional cosmetics. Eliminating additives can help eliminate skin irritation, especially for those with sensitive skin.

All natural in look and feel – Mineral makeup is made from finely ground minerals found in the earth. Avoid the harsh chemicals and preservatives found in traditional makeup and let your skin’s natural luminosity shine through.

Loose Base in 2 gram Shaker Jar

Effortless application – Mineral makeup is perfect for on-the-go application. With so many shades to perfectly match your skin, you won’t have to worry about makeup lines or unblended foundation.

Versatile – For those who use tinted moisturizer, liquid concealer and powder – consider making the switch to mineral makeup. Add loose powder to your favorite moisturizer and use it as liquid concealer or apply it with a brush for full coverage. There is no reason to carry an arsenal of cosmetics when all you need are a few, simple products.

Something for all ages – For teens with problem skin to those hoping to conceal wrinkles and an uneven skin tone, mineral makeup is the perfect solution. The light and easy application is ideal for first-time makeup users or women any age just looking for a change.

Longer lasting on your face – Mineral makeup is water-resistant so it will last longer without creasing or smearing, which mean less touch-ups for you.

Longer lasting on the shelf – Mineral makeup is inorganic making it difficult for bacteria to form. Although mineral makeup can essentially last forever, it is good practice to replace it once a year for the best application.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! – Excessive exposure to the sun can damage your skin. Get extra protection from mineral makeup that has a natural component that keeps your skin protected from harmful UVB and UVA rays.

Full coverage – Mineral makeup is light and blends so easily, it’s nearly impossible to go overboard and get the “cakey” look common with traditional cosmetic products. From morning, noon, to night – you’re ready for anything.

No mess – Skip the sponges and the spills! All you need to apply mineral makeup is a soft brush.

Makeup question for fair skin

Can you tell me which liquid would look right on fair skin with neutral to cool undertones, I have pink to red cheeks and chin in the summertime, but I would wear the liquid in the winter?

Thank you for your recent inquiry into our liquid mineral makeup.  Either Porcelain or Cream Beige shades would look best on your skintone.  This makeup is formulated to apply as a liquid, but set as a mineral powder, and also protects as well as hydrates the skin.

Little hard white things deep into my skin

QUESTION:  I need something for my “pearls”. I do not know the correct name- they are deep into my skin- little hard white things- they are not pimples or black heads, but just as ugly- I have a few of them now- I used to get facials routinely and she would remove them. What do you recommend?

The “pearls”, as you have referred to them, are actually called milia.  (Go to  this link) under Kits & Tools at the top of the home page, you will find two extractor kits.  I personally prefer the #2 Kit as it contains the double loop extractor.  I find this easier to use and is one of our best sellers.  Because the milia are actually “closed” over, you need the lancets, which are of very fine grade and do not damage the skin when used properly, to “lance” or “open” the pocket.  Once you have done this, you will use the extractor to release the milia.  And of course you always want to help prevent risk of infection by following up with the antiseptic towelettes.  I find these to be very useful, and because they are individually wrapped, I toss a few in my handbag for on-the-go help.
This is generally something that is done by a facial specialist, as you say, but with some patience and practice, is quite achievable on your own.  Hope you find this information helpful.  Glad you stopped by the site.  Please do not hesitate to contact us for further assistance or questions.  Have a great day!

It is highly advised that you should also consult your dermatologist for proper use of these quality tools. However, here we can give you simple technique to use comedone extractor. Pesky blackhead is a mixture of dead skin cells, oil and bacteria that builds up inside our skin’s pores. Use the same tools as professional aesthetician or dermatologist use to extract blackheads, pimples & clogged pores. They can be exterminated by using a quality professional comedone extractor.

First, lay a warm, wet wash cloth on your face for a few minutes. After a shower is an ideal time to extract. Steaming the face or using a hot water compress is strongly recommended to help soften comedones. This will make them much easier to remove. When you’re ready to begin the extraction process lay the looped side on top of the blackhead – basically encircling this area with the loop. Apply slow and even pressure lightly until the trapped sebum is forced out of the follicle. The blackhead — oil and all — will ooze up and out of the pore. Do not continue to attempt the extraction if the trapped sebum is not released easily. Applying too much force can cause infection and scarring. When piercing a whitehead with lancet (Pointed end), wait until the whitehead breaks open, then gently roll the tool over the whitehead. Be sure to disinfect the area when finished and clean your tool off with alcohol or hot water. A deep, cystic pimple should not be opened with the lancet. When dealing with deep acne, it’s best to visit a dermatologist. A doctor may use a sterile needle, but only after a pustule has formed. Additional treatments depend on the severity of the acne.

Remember Never use fingers or suction guns for removing blackheads, that may aggravate skin infections.

It is Never Too Early to Start Acne Prevention

baby-acneYes, babies can get acne. No, it is not the same condition that will ruin their first day of middle school years later. But if you are old enough to start worrying about zits, you are old enough to take some preventative measures. Start with a good mild face wash, used regularly. Bacteria does not use contraception

Which leaves population control up to you. Benzoyl peroxide is considered the most effective over-the-counter medication for acne. It reduces the numbers of the P. acnes bacteria by taking the environment one step beyond inhospitable—to truly lethal. Benzoyl peroxide breaks down in contact with skin, releasing oxygen which kills the anaerobic (active in the absence of oxygen) P. acnes bacteria. And while P. acnes has been shown to develop resistance to some antibiotics, it cannot form resistance to this particular path of antibacterial action. Benzoyl peroxide also dissolves keratin—a protein that can block pores. Skin RX Clinic Treatments Follow the Science

At Skin RX Clinic, we’ve developed products that address the biological process of acne development, to treat breakouts quickly and safely and prevent reoccurrences. We know the importance of using a three-pronged approach to acne skin care—daily cleaning, regular exfoliation and bacterial population control. Our four-piece daily cleaning and treatment kit, the Acne Control System, is gentle, even to sensitive skin, while removing surface oil and debris and controlling excess sebum. It includes an advanced sunscreen, which is very important whenever an acne regime is being followed, to counter the tendency of most acne treatments to increase solar sensitivity. SkinRX Clinic’s 15% Smoothing Gel offers deep cleaning and exfoliation as an effective-strength all-day or all-night glycolic acid treatment, or as a series of glycolic acid peels for those with sensitive skin. The End-Zit mask is a therapeutic, professional-strength product that contains materials which draw impurities and oils away from the skin without stripping moisture. Our two strengths of the effective medication Benzoyl Peroxide fight bacteria while tailoring treatment to your skin’s sensitivity and the severity of acne problems.

Bacterial overgrowth is the enemy. The severity of acne ranges from papules—small pink bumps that can be tender—all the way to cysts— the deep, painful pus-filled pimples that can cause scarring. The more bacteria, the worse the problem. So the goal of treatment is to minimize the damage by minimizing bacterial growth.

Bacteria love a ‘messy’ environment. Anything that can block pore openings and impede free flow contributes to clogging and breakouts. That makes regular and thorough removal of surface oil, dead skin cells and make-up critical to prevention and treatment. However, harsh cleaners or determined scrubbing can irritate skin, increase inflammation and make acne worse (just like picking at pimples). The healthiest regimen combines gentle but effective daily cleaning and regular exfoliation through glycolic peels or microdermabrasion.

OMG Check out Paris Hilton!

Seriously – We know Paris Hilton doesn’t really look like this – but with all her partying and alcohol consumption – it could happen!

One of the major causes of premature aging is excessive alcohol consumption. Alcohol is a powerful dehydrating agent which very literally evaporates the water right out of your skin and body. The combination of excessive alcohol consumption and other factors that cause skin damage such as sun exposure, free radicals, smoking, and others will begin to take their toll on your skin. Also, sleep deprivation contributes to premature aging of the skin so if she keeps the party going for much longer, this is what Paris Hilton will look like in a few years!

What can Paris do to prevent such deep facial wrinkles besides cut down on the partying?

With the right skin care treatment, some of the damage can be reversed. An incredibly powerful moisturizing product should be used every single day – especially if you are not otherwise taking care of your body to the best of your ability. One product to try is Skin Rx Clinic’s Rapid Response Line Filler. This anti-aging formula contains Hyaluronic Acid which provides intense moisture and an immediate decrease in the appearance of deep facial wrinkles. Someone should pass this info on to Paris…

Age Spots Are Ugly

Aging hands Photo Credit:

Getting older, especially as it pertains to wrinkles, aches, pains, etc., is no bowl of cherries. Especially because so many people have not taken good care of their skin, growing old gracefully is quite a challenge. Let’s face it, not everyone looks good as they start to age! Fortunately, things like age spots can be prevented by using an effective sunscreen or by staying out of the sun as much as possible.

Its summertime and everyone wants to head outside into the sun. Sun damage is no joke when it comes to your skin, though! It is super important to use a product with at least an SPF 30 or higher to prevent sunburn and other effects like age spots. Have your fun in the sun – but do it responsibly! If you are going to be in the sun for extended periods of time, be sure to re-apply your sunscreen every two hours.

If you are already seeing age spots appear, you need to get rid of them! Age spots are ugly but there are products to treat them effectively. Skin Rx Clinic offers Skin Lightener which works to lighten all kinds of discolorations on the face, hands, arms, and body which are caused by sun damage, acne scars, and certain medications. Such a product is your best bet to a more youthful looking appearance if this is an issue you are currently dealing with.
