Dermabrasion vs Microdermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a somewhat invasive skin procedure which entails the skin being frozen and then “sanded”. A special instrument is used by a skin care professional which applies the abrasion to the skin to remove the surface layer of skin and replace it with a layer of new, younger and fresher looking skin. Dermabrasion is done by a dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or licensed skin care specialist.

Microdermabrasion is a less invasive procedure. Microdermabrasion treatments involves using tiny crystals to remove the surface layer of skin which works to lessen the appearance of dull skin, brown spots or age spots, fine lines, minor acne scars. Microdermabrasion can be done by skin care professionals but home microdermabrasion is also an option.

Dermabrasion was developed primarily for improvement of acne scars, pockmarks and other types of scaring. As knowledge of the procedure increased and technology improved, it can now also be used to treat wrinkles, age spots, and other skin defects.

Microdermabrasion treatments are used only to improve the appearance of skin problems which are considered superficial. Personal microdermabrasion is effective on all skin colors and skin types to produce subtle changes and improvements over time. Even the best microdermabrasion products can not remove deeper skin problems such as stretch marks and severe acne scaring, however. Also when microdermabrasion creams are used, there is no down time like a person will have with dermabrasion treatments. One’s skin recovers fully within 24 hours of microdermabrasion treatments. Personal microdermabrasion is a great choice for the masses as it is non-surgical whereas dermabrasion carries some of the risks associated with surgical procedures because anesthetics are used and the skin bleeds and may not be right for everyone.

The Procedures

Dermabrasion is performed either in an outpatient center or in a plastic surgeon’s office, depending on who is doing the treatments. In some cases, a patient is given medication in order to achieve relaxation during the treatment. The area to be treated will be cleansed and then a spray is applied which freezes the skin. An instrument with a high-speed rotary action with an abrasive surface is then used to remove the outer layers of the skin.

Professional Microdermabrasion results at home

Microdermabrasion treatments use special microdermabrasion creams with tiny crystals which are applied onto the skin using a gentle abrasion technique. This action removes only the dead surface layer of the skin. Personal microdermabrasion works to exfoliate the skin for total rejuvenation and skin cell renewal. Professional or home microdermabrasion kits are very effective to remove age spots and improve the appearance of fine lines to create a younger, more refreshed look and feel of the skin when microdermabrasion treatments are continued.

For those who are looking to improve their skin without an invasive procedure, try a home microdermabrasion kit. Skin Rx recommends Microdermabrasion Peel Kit #1 which combines glycolic acid and microdermabrasion crystals for a “double peel” effect. This microdermabrasion kit includes everything you need for professional microdermabrasion treatments at home.

Help for brown spots, hyperpigmentation

Question: Which products are recommended for my “brown spots”?

Answer:

The “brown spots” you refer to is hyperpigmentation which can be caused by sun damage, hormones, and even incorrectly performed laser treatments. I have included a couple of Skin Rx Clinic’s recommended products to help address this issue, as well as some general information regarding hyperpigmentation.

First, our Skin Lightening Kit, which includes our very own Microdermabrasion Peel, a gentle, yet effective exfoliant. Skin Lightener Gel, a light weight, oil free, non-greasy formula enriched with 3% Kojic Acid, 2% Hydroquinone, and Glycolic acid to help fade unsightly spots. And Advanced Protection SPF 30, to help protect your precious new skin from the further sun damage.  This exclusive formula lightly moisturizes skin, and drenches it with skin enhancing Green Tea, Vitamins C and E, Vitamin A and Ginseng/Ginko Biloba/Licorice extracts for anti-aging.

Second, our Glycolic Peel Kit #1, which includes our ever popular 30% Glycolic Acid Peel, Prep and applicator fan brush with dish, everything you need to perform a professional strength peel at home!

You will save hundreds of dollars compared to what a Doctor’s office or Salon charges. Your skin will glow with healthy radiance, lines and sun damage will fade, acne, large pores, blackheads, and oily skin will clear up. Your skin will look healthy and smooth, well-rested. You might just get asked where you went on your vacation!

Both of these kits are best-sellers, and are easy to apply. It is truly a matter of personal preference when choosing which method is right for you. I prefer the Microdermabrasion Peel to get started with. If you find you require further lightening to this method, you may continue with the Glycolic Peel kit in the future. It is important to remember that this is a treatment process, and while you will feel results after your first treatment, seeing your results will take longer.

Treatments for Brown Spots

If you have been looking for a treatment for brown spots, you may have heard about a procedure called Microdermabrasion. This is a treatment which is administered in many skin care spas and doctor’s offices around the world. Microdermabrasion works by resurfacing the skin for a more even looking tone and smoother texture.

Not only is microdermabrasion just as effective, but it is must less costly than alternative cosmetic procedures such as laser resurfacing and dermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is done with a special tool which combines gentle abrasion and suction to the skin which makes the outer layer peel. The treatment is painless and allows you to continue your daily routine just as you normally would without any downtime.

Skin Rx offers one of the best at home microdermabrasion products available on the market today, the Microdermabrasion Kit # 5.

We found a great article which details one person’s real life experience with microdermabrasion which you may find to be of interest. You can read it by clicking here.

If you have tried microdermabrasion at home, feel free to leave us a comment and tell us about your experience. We would love to hear about it!

Eek! Salma Hayek with Wrinkles and Brown Spots!

Brown spots on the face can make anyone unattractive – even a beauty like Salma Hayek. Fortunately, we do not have to accept aging without a fight. It is possible to remove brown spots with the right skin care treatments. We know that Salma Hayek will probably never look like this, though. When we see celebrities in magazines and on T.V., they all look great – even the older ones. Fortunately for all of us regular people, celebrities are not the only people who have access to skin care treatments that will help us out as we age.

Skin Rx suggests a combination of products to get rid of age spots and prevent new ones.

First, try the Microdermabrasion Kit # 5, which has a “double peel” technology and is the only one like it on the market today and contains Microdermabrasion crystals as well as 10% glycolic acid. This kit can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, acne scars, brown spots, and more. This double duty kit also contains a soothing serum.

In combination with the Microdermabrasion Kit, also be sure to use a quality sunscreen to prevent further damage to the skin. Skin Rx offers Advanced Protection SPF 30. If you do not wear sunscreen, you will only counteract all of the benefits of any anti-aging products you are using.

If you have any questions about brown spots or how to get rid of or prevent them – feel free to leave a comment asking us for advice! We are happy to answer any questions you have about skin care.

How Do I Get Rid of Liver Spots?!?!

Lentigines often go by more common names like “liver spots”, “brown spots”, or “age spots”. They are not caused by age or by anything to do with your liver or your age, though. These brown spots are skin discolorations which are caused by sun damage. If you do not wear sunscreen on a regular basis, these brown spots are inevitable. So if you do not already have brown spots on your face – today is a great day to start wearing a good sunscreen such as Skin Rx’s Advanced Protection SPF 30. This is a great choice because it is not greasy or heavy like many of the sun protection products on the market today and it doubles as a moisturizer.

If you already have brown spots on your skin, you are not alone. And if you are reading this because you want to know how to get rid of brown spots, you came to the right blog!

Try a Skin Lightener with Hydroquinone – The first thing you can try is a skin lightener which contains Hydroquinone. This ingredient, in concentrations of at least 2%, can work wonders on removing age spots. Hydroquinone has been proven effective in scientific studies to lighten the color of a person’s skin, so it is a great topical alternative to expensive laser procedures. If you want to try a skin lightener, try Skin Rx’s Skin Lightener cream.

Glycolic Acid Peels – Glycolic Acid Peels are used to resurface the skin which can help remove brown spots on the face. While many people go to a physician or spa to have a glycolic acid peel, there are over-the-counter versions which work just as well – but without the high price tag or the need to leave your home! If you want to perform a professional glycolic acid peel at home, try Skin Rx’s Glycolic Kit #1, which has pharmaceutical grade ingredients and includes everything you need in a convenient zip-up case.
