Mineral Makeup: The Best Anti-Aging Makeup

Tiffany Holley
When people think of the words “anti aging” more than likely the first thought that comes to mind in terms of skin care products is anti-wrinkle cream. And while anti-aging creams and serums are great for preventing or erasing fine lines and wrinkles, there are also mineral based makeup products which are great for aging skin as well. Mineral makeup products are very kind to the skin because they are more pure than other makeup brands and do not contain irritants such as dyes, fragrances and binders so they are not as harsh in nature. As far as anti-aging properties, mineral makeup products from Skin Rx contain an ingredient called Palmarosa. Derived from the Palmarosa Plant, which is somewhat grass-like in appearance. It is known to moisturize the skin and to help stimulate cell regeneration. Natural mineral makeup also contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide which work as a natural sunscreen to help prevent further sun damage and premature aging of the skin. While one should still apply a quality sunscreen with at least an SPF 30 anytime they expect to be exposed to the sun, these two ingredients do work to protect the skin better than if no sunscreen were used at all. As our skin ages, it becomes more fragile and loses much of the hydration it had in your youth. When skin is young, it can soak up and store moisture almost effortlessly and that is part of what gives off the youthful glow. Aging causes the skin’s elasticity to degenerate which leaves your face, and other parts of your body, feeling drier and less supple than in your more youthful years. An anti-aging skin care routine should include high quality skin care products that are specially formulated for maturing skin. Cleansers, moisturizers, exfoliation products, and even anti-aging makeup should be a part of your daily aging skin care regime.

What kind of makeup is best after laser skin treatments?

Tiffany Holley
postopskin.jpg laser skin treatment immediately post-op picture by tiffanymarlene
Post laser skin is extremely sensitive and needs more than just time to heal. The right skin care procedures and products are super important! Laser skin resurfacing treatments remove the outer layers of the skin so you must manage the after effects of such a treatment to ensure proper healing. At this time, your skin is much more susceptible to infections and bacteria. After your skin is healed, you will also want to wear the right makeup – something you may not have even thought about. Certain makeup products are more irritating than others, and you will want to choose a makeup that is ultra sensitive and all natural for your post laser skin. Mineral makeup is a great choice because it is all natural and does not cause irritation – even to the most sensitive skin! Also, with ingredients like zinc oxide built in, mineral makeup has sun protection, too. Skin Rx recommends the following mineral makeup for post laser skin care: Ultra Sensitive Loose Mineral Base – 7 different shades to choose from, provides excellent coverage and is very long lasting. Ultra Sensitive Mineral Blush – Several different colors of blush available which provides a long lasting, lovely glow to ultra sensitive skin. Ultra Sensitive Finishing Powder – A translucent powder which can be used both as a primer before our mineral base or as a setting powder once your mineral base is applied.

Quiz – Do You Have Sensitive Skin?

Tiffany Holley
Do you feel like your skin is constantly irritated or dry or itchy – or is it just always something when it comes to your skin? You are not alone - sensitive skin is a common problem! If you aren’t sure whether or not you have sensitive skin, take our quiz to find out:
  1. Does your skin show a reaction to common over-the-counter lotions, creams, or fragrances?
  2. Does your skin often get red or blotchy?
  3. Is your skin prone to allergic reactions?
  4. Does your skin have a low tolerance for heat, cold, wind, or pollution?
  5. Is your skin irritated by certain types of clothing or fabrics?
If you answered yes to at least two of these questions, it is highly likely that you have sensitive skin. This is a condition which requires special care and the use of certain products to make your skin as comfortable as possible. And as we transition from summer to autumn, now is the perfect time to re-evaluate your skin care needs as they change with the seasons. As the weather gets colder, sensitive skin tends to get drier - so make sure you are using the right sensitive skin products for the season! Skin Rx has a serum which works wonders to calm and soothe sensitive skin. Willowherb Soothing Serum calms irritation and redness and doubles as a moisturizer which is free from perfumes, dyes, fragrance, and alcohol. In addition, Skin Rx has a super gentle cleanser, Arnica Facial Wash, which is great for highly sensitive or very dry skin. Also great for your sensitive skin is the Skin Recovery Creme, a lightweight moisturizer that soothes, heals, and repairs with ingredients including Vitamin K, Echinacea, Linden Extract, and Aloe.
