QUESTION: Is MAC cosmetics really better that other make up? I always get make up at target and it usually makes my face look kinda...blah and I try not to spend too much money on it, even though I wear a fair amount.

Tara Daniele
I have never been one to put another brand down. I am however a make up artist and I will give you the facts. MAC make up is fantastic if your looking for a dramatic look...if you look back at the MAC ads you will notice all of the MAC models show severally dramatic makeup pictures. There is a reason for this...that is the look of MAC Cosmetics! It tends to be heavy and thick and pore clogging. You feel like you are wearing makeup...and I personally don't like that feeling. I recommend checking out SkinRxClinic. They have a wide variety of Mineral based makeup as well as Pressed Foundations and Liquid Mineral Foundation. They have everything you could possibly need from pharmaceutical grade skincare to mineral makeup (including blushes and eye shadows) to brushes and brush kits...it is definitely a one stop shop! Check it out...www.SkinRxClinic.com

QUESTION: Does Panoxyl 5 acne gel work? I have mild acne and need to know if this is a valid product or do I have other options?

Tara Daniele
I have never heard of Panoxyl 5 but that's not to say it doesn't exist or doesn't work...I just personally haven't heard of it. That said...I am an acne survivor and fought it my whole life so I feel your pain. I highly recommend a Alpha-Beta Glycolic and Salicylic Acid. My favorite products can be found at SkinRxClinic. They have a Acne Cleansing Gel and Acne Purifying Tonic that work wonders!. The Acne Cleansing Gel gently exfoliates and gets deep into your pores to tackle tough and blemish-prone skin. Its mild foaming 12% alpha and beta hydroxy acid cleanser and it helps to clean the pores, reduce pore size, control excess sebum, prevent acne breakouts, and provide overall healthier looking skin. The tonic is highly effective at keeping pores clean and removing excess oil and debris. It helps fight acne causing bacteria, and minimizes the appearance of pores. It leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean, without that "stripped" feeling and it has an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti fungal benefits. You can find them at www.SkinRxClinic.com.

QUESTION: What kind of pimples are these? I've been getting dry skin and the break outs are big pimples. Some are tiny white heads and deep black heads, when I pick them, the stuff comes out green! Is this normal?

Tara Daniele
Ok so here's the deal...sounds like you have some serious bacteria growing under the surface layer of skin and this is clogging your pores. I use the word bacteria because you say its green in color and that is usually what causes that! The little white bumps are called Millia and they are hard and not extractable (wont pop) The blackheads are clogged pores that have been oxidized. I strongly recommend trying the Microdermabrasion Peel from www.SkinRxClinic.com. Just go to the website type "micro" in the search box and check it out. It contains glycolic acid and has perfectly symmetrical micro crystal to help remove some of the dead built up surface skin! Once the dead skin is gone the product can penetrate deeper and help clear up the bacteria causing the breakouts! NO picking, you don't want scars! There is actually a tool called an extractor that is specifically designed for those stuborn pimples. www.SkinRxClinic.com offers two options: Double Loop Extractor & Wire Extractor.

Chemical peels produce controlled injury to the skin which promotes growth of new skin with improved appearance. Many different chemicals are used for chemical peels and include glycolic acid, Lactic acid, salicylic acid, and “Jessners” solution. Chemical peels are used for the treatment of photoaging (from sun damage), wrinkles, scarring, acne, precancerous lesions, and discoloration (including melasma, freckles, and age spots).

QUESTION: I cleanse, tone and moisturize morning and night but I`m still very spotty is there anything I can do to get rid of my spots?

Tara Daniele
You should add a face cream with Retinol such as Skin Rx Clinic Pro-Med Retinol Face Creme to your routine. Apply evenly on face and neck every morning and in the evening on cleansed skin. The cream can also be used as a base under makeup. Applied regularly to the skin it will create a smoother and rosier glow. It is used to aid in the reduction of lines, wrinkles, and to fade age spots.  Using an At Home Chemical peel can also be very benificial. Lactic Acid is a highly recommended for treating hyper-pigmention and age spots. I recommend Skin Rx Clinics Professional strength Lactic Acid Chemical Peel.

Who Should Use Lactic Acid Peels?

Tiffany Holley
When it comes to at home peels, it can be confusing when you are trying to decide which one to try. You have probably heard the good and the bad during your research including people who have had amazing results and some who have had some downright scary results. This is why alpha-hydroxy chemical home peel products are great, as they work on all skin types and deliver the results you expect. If you are considering lactic acid products, here are the basics and some information about who would benefit from the use of lactic peels. chemical home skin peels at home A lactic acid peel works by exfoliating and peeling the outer layer of skin to rejuvenate and stimulate new skin cell growth and to reveal the more beautiful skin underneath those dead skin cells. It is derived from milk sugars, so it is all-natural. The properties of lactic acid when compared to other alpha hydroxy acids are different in that the molecules are larger which causes a lactic acid skin peel to penetrate the skin more slowly. This means it is gentler on the skin but is still very effective for its intended uses. Because lactic peels are proven effective, work on any skin type and are gentler to the skin than other chemical peel products, they are a good choice for:
  • The Beginner – someone who has never used at home peels before
  • Sensitive Skin – someone whose skin is easily irritated
  • Acne Prone Skin – someone whose skin breaks out with acne often and has acne scars
  • Mature or Dry Skin – someone who is over 35 or has very dry skin
Skin care experts recommend starting out with the lowest concentration possible, as in 30% lactic acid peels, and then increasing in strength once the skin is accustomed to undergoing at home peels. Skin Rx offers lactic acid facial peel products ranging from 30% lactic acid to 50% lactic acid for all levels of chemical home peel users.

Glycolic Acid FAQ

Tiffany Holley
If you are scouring the internet for answers to your questions about glycolic facial peels, you have come to the right place. Keep reading to find out the answers to many frequently asked questions about glycolic acid. Q: How many uses will I get out of Skin Rx Clinic glycolic acid products? A: This answer will vary based on a few different factors including how often you use the products and what amount is used each time. If you use Skin Rx Clinic glycolic acid products as suggested, a standard 8 oz. supply of glycolic acid should last for about six months, or 25 – 30 peels. Q: Can I use glycolic peels on parts of my body other than my face? A: Yes. Skin Rx Clinic’s professional strength glycolic products are safe for other body parts such as the neck, knees and elbows, legs, hands, feet, and chest area. The best glycolic acid to start with is a 30% glycolic treatment if you plan to use it on other parts of your body. Q: Do you recommend cleansing my face with regular soap before applying the glycolic acid exfoliating products? A: No. Because soap is an alkali, it will almost certainly neutralize any effects of the glycolic treatment. It is best to use a mild facial cleanser such as Skin Rx Clinic’s Arnica Facial Wash. This will ensure you start with a fresh, clean surface with no soap residue left on the skin so that the Glycolic Facial Polish can provide optimal results. Q: What is the reason that I should alternate between facial exfoliating moisturizers & non-exfoliating moisturizers? A: Your facial skin is more sensitive than other parts of your body and therefore needs time to rest and renew its skin cells between glycolic acid exfoliation treatments. Skin Rx Clinic recommends alternating between the Glycolic Facial Polish and the Herbal Moisture Crème. Q: Do glycolic acid exfoliating products produce immediate results? A: After just one glycolic treatment, you are not likely to see any significant results. Even with our professional strength glycolic acid, it takes several uses. Our best advice is to be patient and stick with the glycolic treatment skin regimen to obtain the dramatic results you desire. Q: Does the use of a glycolic acid peel produce skin color changes? A: Glycolic facial peels will not usually change the color of your skin. A glycolic treatment is a light peel which just removes the dead, dull layers of skin cells and unclogs the pores. Glycolic peels can, however, even out your skin tone to make the color of your face more uniform in color overall. Q: Will my face breakout if I use glycolic acid products? A: As you begin to cleanse your skin properly with exfoliating products such as Skin Rx Clinic’s professional strength glycolic acid, you may experience a breakout in the early stages as you start to peel away clogged and dead layers of skin. This is due to hidden debris and bacteria which are now being released onto the skin’s surface. It is important to cleanse and exfoliate and keep up with your glycolic treatments to get rid of all those impurities to get to the beautiful, healthy skin underneath. Q: What are the major differences between glycolic acid facial peels in concentrations of 30%, 40%, and 60%? A: Concentration: Skin Rx Clinic’s 30% glycolic peel contains 30% professional strength glycolic acid. Likewise the 40% glycolic peel contains 40% professional strength glycolic acid. The higher the concentration, the shorter the leave on time will be for your glycolic treatment. Concentrations higher than 40% unbuffered glycolic acid should only be used by skin care professionals or dermatologists. Even with these mild concentrations, we guarantee that if used as recommended, you will achieve significant results due to our high quality ingredients. Q: How long does a chemical peel take? A: Glycolic peels should take no more than 15 minutes total from start to finish. Q: After a chemical peel, how soon can I go back to work? A: In most cases, there is no down time associated with having glycolic facial peels. Work activities can be resumed immediately. Q: Is it painful to get a chemical peel on my face? A: There is no pain associated with glycolic facial peels.  Though you may feel a slight tingling sensation when the glycolic acid is applied to the skin, your face will feel refreshed, calm, and free of discomfort once the peel is neutralized and rinsed away. Q: Am I allowed to go out in the sun after a facial chemical peel? A: You can expose your face to the sun, however, Skin Rx recommends using a quality sunscreen for the first few days after a glycolic acid peel due to increased sensitivity to sun exposure. Q: How often and how many chemical peels do I need to have for best results? A: For best results, Skin Rx Clinic recommends doing a glycolic treatment about every four to six weeks. Glycolic acid peels can be used in combination with glycolic acid exfoliating and moisturizing products which can be used on a daily basis. The short term exposure of a higher concentration of glycolic acid on a periodic basis helps maintain skin health and appearance. Q: How much improvement will I see in deep lines or wrinkles after having a chemical peel? A: Glycolic facial peels do have their limits. A glycolic acid peel will provide improvement in skin’s texture, tone, smoothness and overall appearance but it will not remove deep lines or wrinkles. As long as you have realistic expectations, you will be very happy with the results of a glycolic acid skin care regimen.
