QUESTION: I just ordered a 30% Glycolic Peel from SkinRxClinic. What should I expect and how long before I will notice improvements?

Tara Daniele

First I want to say thank you for your business! Now to answer your question...Everyone skin is different and because of that results may vary from person to person. You can expect the texture of the skin to start improving within the first few weeks. Skin tone should start evening out after about a month. Collagen and elastin improvement will begin after your first two to three months. Small scar reduction takes around six months to a year.

Every human body improves at a different rate so have patience with yourself and the results will come! The good thing about glycolic acid is you will always keep improving over a period of time.

QUESTION: How exactlly does a Chemical Acid Peel work?

Tara Daniele
Your skin is made up of protein, water and other minor chemicals. Proteins are very complex chains of amino acids and they are very sensitive to the level of pH surrounding them. When the skin's proteins react with an acid in a low pH coagulation occurs. This is a non-reversible reaction where the proteins are basically destroyed (frosting is what you see when this process is happening). This is the actual goal of chemical peeling the skin. The acid destroys the existing tissues so that they can be replaced with new structures. Go to www.SkinRxClinic.com to learn more and check out all the different Acids offered.

QUESTION: How often should you replace your sunscreen?

Tara Daniele
Don't save your sunblock from one summer to the next. Buy the size that will be adequate for the time you need it and then discard. Sunblock that is over a year old has started to deteriorate so the benefits will be diminished. When purchasing sunscreen make sure you check the active ingredients...if  Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide are not listed you wont get the maximum benefits. Try Skin Rx Clinics Advanced Protection SPF 30 Sunblock with Zinc Oxide. This physical sunblock provides full-spectrum protection and has vitamins & anti-oxidants. There are two kinds of sun protection: Physical & Chemical. Physical sunblock does not have the ability to be absorbed into the skin and as a result sits on the surface and reflects the damaging rays away from the skin. Physical sunscreens will always have Zinc and/or Titanium Dioxide. Chemical sunblock has the ability to be absorbed into the skin and as a result must be reapplyed to keep its effectivness. Hope this helps!

QUESTION: What are the risks of chemical peels and how long after a chemical peel before I can return to normal activities?

Tara Daniele
Superficial peels are quite safe although rarely minor irritation of the skin can occur.  Minimal redness and sometime brownish patches can occur as well as tightening of the skin and slight peeling. Superficial peels require no recovery time. Redness may last up to three days and can be diminished by using a mineral based makeup. Skin Rx Clinic offers a "Mica Free" Ultra Sensitive Loose Mineral Base that will assist in the healing process as well as mask any redness or discolorations.

Tara Daniele
Chemical peels produce controlled injury to the skin which promotes growth of new skin with improved appearance. Many different chemicals are used for chemical peels and include glycolic acid, Lactic acid, salicylic acid, and “Jessners” solution. QUESTION: I wanted to know which product gives the better result - 40% unbuffered rx strength or 60% buffered strength glycolic acid skin peel?

Tara Daniele
Great question...Buffered peels are partially neutralized to a pH of around 2.1. The resulting product is considered just as effective and safer for home / non-professional use. Unbuffered peels are at lower pHs and are said to act quicker and more aggressively on the skin and I strongly recommend that unbuffered peels be neutralized with a peel neutralizer. If you decide to go with the Unbuffered Rx strength I recommend also purchasing Skin Rx Clinics 2 oz Home Skin Peel Kit. This can be found on our website just search "peel kit" and scroll down. The kit contains a Pre Peel Prep and Post Peel Neutralizer as well as application fan brush and dispensing dish.

QUESTION: How often should I exfoliate and what should I use? Should I do it at night or in the morning?

Tara Daniele
Its recommend that you exfoliate your skin 1 to 2 times a week. Skin Rx Clinic Microdermabrasion Peel gently buffs away dulling surface flakes, unclogs pores and renews, refines and retexturizes skin as it exfoliates. It does not matter whether you exfoliate morning or night, but be sure to cleanse and tone your skin first as exfoliators are not cleansers. Professional Microdermabrasion results at home
